“What is Blogging” Ever asked that question? If you’re new to blogging, this would be the first question popping up in your head.
Let me explain what blogging is.
“The phrase ‘blogging’ is just semantics,” says David Meerman Scott. It basically refers to a platform for someone to create content with passion and build a community around it.
Not quite enough?
Ok, so before we proceed further let’s have a look at the building blocks, starting with a blog.
So, what is a blog?
Taking you back to history, the term “blog”, was first used by Peter Merholz, who broke the word “weblog” (which was then used for a blog) into the phrase we blog in 1999.
Got it! You moved on and you want some real explanations.
Here we go, a blog is an online space (in the form of a website) for you to write, publish and express anything you want. It can be a personal space for you to post your pictures and stories or it can be used professionally for business purposes.
It provides you with a platform to communicate with your audience in the form of articles, videos, visuals, comments etc.
Here is what Darren Rowse, founder Problogger, said,
A blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom. source
Now that you know what a blog is, let’s looks at Blogging.
What is blogging now?
You run a blog by publishing articles, working on visuals, tackling the ever-changing technical aspect of your site and communicating with your readers, this whole process of managing a blog is called blogging.
I bet that was simple!
Apart from the ones mentioned above, blogging requires skills such as search engine optimization and social media marketing, just to name a few. To be at the top you need to learn these skills over time and connect with your readers with lots of unique and quality content.
